These pictures were taken at Jonathan Dickinson State Park, Hobe Sound. It is located just across the Inland Waterway (West) from Jupiter Island, which is just north of Palm Beach. We have been told that this was once a beautiful park before the Hurricanes of 2004 devastated the park. It now looks like ground zero of a nuclear blast. The park is scheduled to be closed in August for a complete makeover. They will be upgrading to 50 amp service with pull-thru's and new bath-houses. It will still take quite a while for the vegetation to come back to what it was like before. While we were here we took a River Cruise up the Loxahatchee River to the camp of Trapper Nelson, who lived like Tarzan. He acquired over 800 acres along the River and kept it until his untimely death in 1968. The river was narrow along much of the way, and there was a lot of wildlife. It was like being on the Jungle Cruise at Disney. |
